This year’s event took place in Paris, France and during the closing ceremonies this weekend, the Olympic torch was passed off to the next host city, as is tradition.
Here’s what to know about where the Olympic Games are headed next:
Where are the Summer Olympics going next and when does it take place?
Los Angeles, Calif., known as the City of Angels, Hollywood, and “the Happiest Place on Earth”, will play host to the 2028 Summer Olympics.
The dates for that event are already set for July 14 to July 30, 2028.
After L.A., the 2032 Games will head Down Under to Brisbane, Australia, from July 23 to Aug. 8, 2032.
And while breakdancing won’t be a part of the 2028 Games in L.A., maybe Olympic officials will figure out a way to bring it back for 2032 so we can get an encore performance from Australia’s Raygun, also known as Rachael Gunn, the B-girl who stunned the world in this year’s competition.

What happened during the Paris closing ceremonies and why is Tom Cruise everywhere?
During the closing ceremonies, after the Olympic flag was passed from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Hollywood star and stunt aficionado Tom Cruise rappelled into the Stade de France to the sounds of the Mission Impossible theme song, performed by American singer H.E.R.
Cruise then made his way through a crowd of athletes before running on stage to receive the flag from Bass and U.S. gymnast Simone Biles. He then stuck the flag on the back of a motorcycle and rode out from the stadium.
The handover ceremony then continued with a pre-recorded clip of Cruise riding the motorcycle onto a plane and then skydiving over L.A. before finishing atop the iconic Hollywood sign. The sign had been modified to feature the Olympic rings over its letter Os.

Cruise was included as a representative of L.A. and knowing Hollywood, you can be sure to see a lot of star power leading up to the next Summer Olympics.
What about the Winter Olympics? Where is it happening?
Of course, the Summer and Winter Games alternate every two years so the next Olympic event will actually be the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The 2026 Winter Olympics will be taking place in Italy, hosted by the cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, from Feb. 6 to 22, 2026.
Following that, the Olympics will actually return to France, with the 2030 Winter Olympics looking set for the French Alps.
